ABSTRACT Nutri-priming is a low-cost and highly effective way of supplying seeds with micronutrients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the physiological quality of seeds of the Pérola cultivar of the common bean under nutrient solutions containing molybdenum, cobalt and zinc for different imbibition times. The experiment was carried out in the laboratory and greenhouse of the State University of Goiás UEG - UnU Ipameri, using a completely randomised experimental design, with eight micronutrient treatments (T1. Control; T2. Mo; T3. Zn; T4. Co; T5. Mo + Co; T6. Mo + Zn; T7. Zn + Co; T8. Mo + Co + Zn) and six imbibition times (6, 8, 12, 16, 20 and 24 hours). The variables under analysis were seed imbibition, germination test, first germination count, accelerated ageing, seedling emergence, emergence speed index, shoot length, root length, total length, fresh weight, dry weight, and shoot and root biomass. The micronutrients afforded an increase in germination in the seed batches under evaluation; on the other hand, imbibition times of greater than four hours reduced the germination capacity of the seeds. It can be concluded that nutri-priming in the common bean is only beneficial for an imbibition time of up to four hours.

ABSTRACT The buriti palm (Mauritia flexuosa L. f.) serves as a raw material for the food, pharmaceutical and biotechnological industries but it has a low germination rate and seed viability, which are directly related to the morphological characteristics of the fruits and seeds. Biometric characterization provides information necessary for the differentiation, characterization of ecological and genetic aspects of different species and populations of the same group, and can help in the conservation and propagation of species. The current work performed the biometric characterization of fruits and diaspores of Mauritia flexuosa from a cultivation environment in the Brazilian Cerrado. 100 fruits were randomly sampled, which were measured in length, width, thickness, individual weight, diaspore length, diaspore width, diaspore thickness and individual diaspore weight. Fruits were classified as red (Hue 10 R 4/8) and yellow-orange diaspores (Hue 7.5 YR 8/8). Data for each characteristic were submitted to descriptive statistical analysis. The fruits varied by 6.56% in length, 4.38% in width and 4.26% in thickness while the diaspores varied by 8.17% in length, 9.29% in width and 9.62% in thickness. The variables fruit weight and diaspore weight showed the greatest variations, 12.12% and 23.86%, respectively. There was a positive correlation between width and thickness (0.90). The small variation in biometric dimensions indicates that the species has little variability.

RESUMO A palmeira buriti (Mauritia flexuosa L. f.) serve como matéria-prima para a indústria alimentícia, farmacêutica e biotecnológica, porém apresenta baixa taxa de germinação e viabilidade de sementes, que estão diretamente relacionadas com as características morfológicas dos frutos e sementes. A caracterização biométrica fornece informações necessárias para a diferenciação, caracterização de aspectos ecológicos e genéticos de diferentes espécies e de populações de um mesmo grupo, podendo auxiliar na conservação e propagação de espécies. Dessa forma, o presente trabalho realizou a caracterização biométrica de frutos e diásporos de Mauritia flexuosa provenientes de um ambiente de cultivo no Cerrado brasileiro. Foram amostrados aleatoriamente 100 frutos, que foram mensurados em comprimento, largura, espessura, peso individual, comprimento do diásporo, largura do diásporo, espessura do diásporo e peso individual do diásporo. Os frutos foram classificados como vermelhos (Hue 10 R 4/8) e os diásporos amarelo-alaranjados (Hue 7.5 YR 8/8). Os dados de cada característica foram submetidos à análise estatística descritiva. Os frutos apresentaram variação de 6,56% de comprimento, 4,38% de largura e 4,26% de espessura, enquanto os diásporos apresentaram variação de 8,17% de comprimento, 9,29% de largura e 9,62% de espessura. As variáveis peso do fruto e peso do diásporo apresentaram maiores variações, 12,12% e 23,86%, respectivamente. Houve correlação positiva entre a largura e espessura (0,90). A pequena variação nas dimensões biométricas indica que a espécie possui pouca variabilidade.

Abstract The success of any plant development relies on healthy and vigorous seedlings, and the use of rhizobacteria is a sustainable alternative for the production of high-quality seedlings as they positively interfere in plant development. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of rhizobacteria on growth and quality of seedlings of açaí (Euterpe oleracea Mart.), a native palm of Brazil, which has significant ornamental value in addition to the ecological and economic role, mainly by providing sweet heart of palm and fruit pulp. The experimental design was entirely randomized. There were five treatments (Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus megaterium, Bacillus amyloliquefaciens and Azospirillum brasilense plus the absence of microorganisms - control); four replicates and ten plants per plot. The following characteristics were evaluated: shoot height (cm), root length (cm); stem diameter (mm); number of leaves; leaf area (cm2); shoot, and root as well as total dry matter (g). Shoot/root ratio was determined and Dickson Quality Index. The data were submitted to variance analysis and the means were compared using Tukey’s test at 5% probability. Pearson’s correlation matrix was also determined. The rhizobacterium Bacillus subtilis provided higher growth while Bacillus amyloliquefaciens provided lower growth and quality of açaí seedlings.

Resumo O sucesso do desenvolvimento de qualquer planta é dependente de mudas sadias e vigorosas e o uso de rizobactérias é uma alternativa sustentável para a produção de mudas de alta qualidade pois interferem positivamente no desenvolvimento das plantas. Desta forma, o objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito de rizobactérias no crescimento e na qualidade de mudas de açaí (Euterpe oleracea Mart.) palmeira nativa do Brasil, que apresenta expressivo valor ornamental além da importância ecológica e também econômica, principalmente pelo fornecimento de palmito doce e polpa dos frutos. O delineamento experimental foi o inteiramente casualizado. Foram cinco tratamentos (Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus megaterium, Bacillus amyloliquefaciens e Azospirillum brasilense mais a ausência de microrganismos - controle); quatro repetições e dez plantas por parcela. Foram avaliadas as características: comprimento da parte aérea (cm) e do sistema radicular (cm); diâmetro do coleto (mm); número de folhas; área foliar (cm2); massa seca da parte aérea, das raízes e total (g) e determinadas: razão parte aérea/raízes e o Índice de Qualidade de Dickson. Os dados foram submetidos à análise de variância e as médias comparadas pelo teste de Tukey, a 5% de probabilidade. Foi determinada, ainda, a matriz de correlação de Pearson. A rizobactéria Bacillus subtilis proporcionou maior e Bacillus amyloliquefaciens menor crescimento e qualidade das mudas de açaí.

Abstract Studies on biometry are considered important tools for understanding the germination process of seeds. Moreover, the ex-situ conservation of palm seeds can cause loss of viability over time. The present study aimed to evaluate the biometric characterization and the effect of storage on the seed germination of the Triangle Palm (Dypsis decaryi), a widely used species in Brazilian landscaping. Two independent studies were conducted: I) biometric characterization of diaspores and II) effect of storage in seed germination. For biometry, a sample of 100 diaspores was used and the length, width and thickness were measured. Biometric data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and correlation analysis. The seeds were packed in transparent plastic bags kept in a refrigerator (20 ± 2 ºC and 80% relative humidity) for storage evaluation. The experimental design was entirely randomized. The treatments consisted of six storage periods (0 - control, 30, 60, 90, 120 and 150 days); there were four repetitions and 25 seeds per plot. The germination percentage and germination speed index were evaluated. Diaspores showed little variation in their biometric characteristics, with a mean of 18.39 mm in length, 16.10 mm in width and 15.96 mm in thickness. There was significant and positive correlation between all biometric characteristics. It was observed that germination remained stable until 30 days of storage (90%), with a gradual percentage decrease in later periods. The seed storage allowed to maintain its viability and longevity with the ability to germinate, reaching a germination percentage of 63% after 150 days of storage.

Resumo Estudos sobre a biometria são consideradas ferramentas importantes para a compreensão do processo germinativo das sementes. Além disso, a conservação ex-situ de sementes de palmeiras pode causar perda de sua viabilidade ao longo do tempo. Objetivou-se com o presente trabalho avaliar a caracterização biométrica e o efeito do armazenamento na germinação de sementes da palmeira triangular (Dypsis decaryi), espécie muito utilizada no paisagismo brasileiro. Foram conduzidos dois estudos independentes: I) caracterização biométrica dos diásporos e, II) efeito do armazenamento na germinação de sementes. Para a biometria, foi utilizada uma amostra com 100 diásporos sendo realizadas as medidas do comprimento, largura e espessura. Os dados biométricos foram analisados por meio de estatística descritiva e análise de correlação. As sementes foram acondicionadas em embalagem de saco plástico transparente dentro de refrigerador (20 ± 2 ºC e 80% de umidade relativa do ar) para avaliação do armazenamento. Adotou-se o delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado. Os tratamentos consistiram em seis períodos de armazenamento (0 - controle, 30, 60, 90, 120 e 150 dias); foram quatro repetições e 25 sementes por parcela. Avaliou-se a porcentagem e o índice de velocidade de germinação. Os diásporos apresentam pequena variação nas suas características biométricas, com média de 18,39 mm de comprimento, 16,10 mm de largura e 15,96 mm de espessura. Houve correlação significativa e positiva entre todas as características biométricas. Observou-se que a germinação se manteve estável até 30 dias de armazenamento (90%), com queda gradual na porcentagem nos períodos posteriores. O armazenamento das sementes permitiu manter a sua viabilidade e longevidade com capacidade de germinar, obtendo percentagem de germinação de 63% após 150 dias de armazenamento.

Abstract The objective of this work was to identify the effect of potassium rates on Bt transgenic resistance and damage caused by Spodoptera frugiperda in corn plants at different developmental stages. The experimental design was a randomized complete block in a 3x6 factorial arrangement, with three potassium rates (0, 45, and 90 kg ha-1) and six corn hybrids (20A55Hx, 30A77PW, AG1051, MG652PW, NS90VTPro2, and NS92VTPro), with three replicates. The hybrids were evaluated through the analysis of canonical variables. With low potassium rates, the effectiveness of the corn hybrids in controlling the S. frugiperda caterpillar decreases in the different phenological stages. The use of the Bt technology is more efficient under an adequate potassium rate of 90 kg ha-1 KCl.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi identificar o efeito de doses de potássio sobre a resistência transgênica Bt e os danos causados por Spodoptera frugiperda em plantas de milho, em diferentes estádios de desenvolvimento. O delineamento experimental foi de blocos ao acaso, em arranjo fatorial 3x6, com três doses de potássio (0, 45 e 90 kg ha-1) e seis híbridos de milho (20A55Hx, 30A77PW, AG1051, MG652PW, NS90VTPro2 e NS92VTPro), com três repetições. Os híbridos foram avaliados por meio de análise de variáveis canônicas. Com doses baixas de potássio, a eficácia dos híbridos de milho no controle da lagarta S. frugiperda diminui nos diferentes estádios fenológicos. O uso da tecnologia Bt é mais eficiente quando sob dosagem adequada de potássio de 90 kg ha-1 KCl.

Resumo A zínia (Zinnia elegans Jacq.) é uma espécie amplamente cultivada e utilizada como planta ornamental no mercado floral mundial. Embora possua grande potencial para fitorremediação e compostos com atividades anti-infecciosas e antioxidante, poucos são os trabalhos que abordem sobre o processo de produção de suas mudas, principalmente utilizando substratos oriundos de resíduos orgânicos. Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar o potencial do biossólido como componente de substrato no crescimento inicial de mudas de Zinnia elegans. As mudas foram produzidas em condições de viveiro com controle de luminosidade de 50%. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado. Foram seis tratamentos, quatro repetições e cinco plantas por parcela. Os tratamentos foram constituídos por substratos resultantes da mistura de terra de subsolo (TS) e biossólido (BIO) em diferentes proporções: 100% TS (controle); 80% TS + 20% BIO; 60% TS + 40% BIO; 40% TS + 60% BIO; 20% TS + 80% BIO; T6 100% BIO. Foram avaliadas as características morfológicas e de qualidade das mudas. Realizou-se a análise de regressão polinomial e coeficiente de correlação de Pearson. Houve ajuste de regressão quadrática para altura da planta, diâmetro do coleto, área foliar, clorofila total, massa seca da parte aérea, raiz e total. A característica razão altura/diâmetro foi a que menos se correlacionou com as demais, sendo observada correlação positiva apenas com altura da planta. O uso do biossólido na proporção de 60% na composição de substrato se mostrou eficiente para o crescimento inicial de mudas, pois apresentou as melhores respostas para a maioria das características morfológicas e de qualidade das mudas.

Abstract Zinnia (Zinnia elegans Jacq.) is a widely cultivated species and used as an ornamental plant in the world flower market. Although it has great potential for phytoremediation and compounds with anti-infective and antioxidant activities there are few studies that address the process of production of its seedlings especially using substrates from organic waste. This study aimed to evaluate the potential of biosolid as a substrate component in the initial growth of Zinnia elegans seedlings. The seedlings were produced in nursery conditions with 50% light control. The experimental design was entirely randomized. There were six treatments, four repetitions and five plants per plot. The treatments consisted of substrates resulting from the mixture of subsoil (SS) and biosolid (BIO) in different proportions: 100% SS (control); 80% SS + 20% BIO; 60% SS + 40% BIO; 40% SS + 60% BIO; 20% SS + 80% BIO; T6 100% BIO. The morphological and quality characteristics of the seedlings were evaluated. Polynomial regression analysis and Pearson correlation coefficient were performed. Quadratic regression fitting was observed for plant height, stem diameter, leaf area, total chlorophyll, and shoot and root dry mass, as well as total dry mass. The shoot height/stem diameter ratio was the characteristic that correlated least with the others, being observed a positive correlation only with plant height. The use of biosolid in the proportion of 60% in the substrate composition proved to be efficient for the initial growth of seedlings as it showed the best responses for most morphological and quality characteristics of the seedlings.

RESUMO A composição do substrato é fator de grande influência na qualidade das mudas. Objetivou-se avaliar o potencial de biossólido como componente de substrato, no crescimento inicial de mudas de Syagrus romanzoffiana (Cham.) Glassman. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado, com seis tratamentos, cinco repetições e sete plantas por parcela. Os tratamentos foram constituídos por substratos resultantes da mistura de terra de subsolo (TS) e biossólido (BIO) em diferentes proporções: 100 % TS; 20 % BIO + 80 % TS; 40 % BIO + 60 % TS; 60 % BIO + 40 % TS; 80 % BIO + 20 % TS; 100 % BIO. Avaliaram-se as características morfológicas e de qualidade das mudas. Houve incremento até a proporção de 60 % de biossólido para altura da parte aérea, diâmetro do coleto, número de folhas, área foliar, clorofila total, comprimento da raiz, massa seca da parte aérea e índice de qualidade de Dickson. Para a massa seca da raiz e total, o incremento se deu até a proporção de 40 % de biossólido. Portanto, o uso do biossólido nas proporções de 40 e 60 % na composição do substrato mostrou-se eficiente por promover satisfatório crescimento inicial (todas as mudas apresentaram altura entre 30 e 40 cm e diâmetro do coleto de 5 mm) e qualidade das mudas avaliadas.

ABSTRACT Substrate composition is a major factor influencing seedling quality. This study aimed to evaluate the potential of biosolid as a substrate component in the initial growth of Syagrus romanzoffiana (Cham.) Glassman seedlings. The experimental design was completely randomized, with six treatments, five replicates and seven plants per plot. The treatments consisted of substrates resulting from the mixture of subsoil (SS) and biosolid (BIO) at different proportions: 100 % SS; 20 % BIO + 80 % SS; 40 % BIO + 60 % SS; 60 % BIO + 40 % SS; 80 % BIO + 20 % SS; 100 % BIO. The seedling quality and morphological characteristics were evaluated. There was an increase up to the proportion of 60 % of biosolid for shoot height, stem diameter, number of leaves, leaf area, total chlorophyll content, root length, shoot dry matter and Dickson’s quality index. For the root and total dry matter, increases occurred up to the proportion of 40 % of biosolid. Therefore, the use of biosolid in the proportions of 40 and 60 % in the substrate composition proved to be efficient, as they promoted a satisfactory initial growth (all seedlings presented shoot height between 30 and 40 cm and stem diameter of 5 mm) and quality of the evaluated seedlings.

Resumo A soja é uma das culturas de maior impacto no abastecimento global de alimentos, por isso é importante estudar os fatores relevantes que afetam sua produção e até mesmo o desenvolvimento de suas sementes no campo. Os macro e micronutrientes são importantes, especificadamente em relação à soja, o boro é extremamente importante para a fixação biológica do nitrogênio, participando dos processos fisiológicos de formação das sementes. No entanto, o nutriente não é muito móvel nas plantas, sendo assim alguns autores recomendam a pulverização foliar para melhorar a produtividade e a qualidade das sementes. A dosagem e o momento das aplicações são fatores importantes nas decisões internas relacionadas à produção e ao manejo da safra. Portanto, o objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar os efeitos de tempos e doses de aplicação de boro no solo sobre a qualidade da soja, e sua influência nas características fisiológicas após o armazenamento. Dois experimentos foram conduzidos um na Universidade Estadual de Goiás e outro na Universidade Federal de Pelotas. A primeira fase foi em campo, conduzida em blocos casualizados em esquema fatorial 5 x 6, com cinco estágios (V0, V3, V6, V9 e R1) de aplicação de boro e seis diferentes doses (0, 1, 2, 3, 4 e 5 kg ha-1) dela, quatro repetições, foram avaliandos o teor de boro nas folhas, o índice de clorofila e a produtividade de sementes em kg ha-1. A segunda fase foi elaborada em laboratório com o objetivo de avaliar a qualidade fisiológica e titulação de nutrientes das sementes após 6 meses de armazenamento, em delineamento inteiramente casualizado em esquema fatorial 5 x 6 com quatro repetições, como no campo com 5 estágios e 6 doses. As variáveis analisadas foram: germinação, comprimento da raiz, comprimento da parte aérea, índice de taxa de crescimento, razão de desenvolvimento da raiz, razão de desenvolvimento da parte aérea e concentração de fósforo, nitrogênio, potássio e boro. O estádio reprodutivo apresentou as melhores médias para as variáveis de qualidade das sementes e concentração dos nutriente na semente, enquanto que para as doses, os níveis intermediários apresentaram resultados positivos para a maioria dos testes utilizados no estudo. No entanto, não há justificativa para a fertilização com boro para manter a qualidade das sementes armazenadas.

Abstract Soybeans is one of the crops with significant impact on global food supply, so it’s important to study those relevant factors affecting its production and even the development of its seeds in the field. The macro and micronutrients are important, and continuously soybeans is concerned, boron is extremely important for biological nitrogen fixation, and participating in the physiological seed formation processes. Since the nutrient is not very mobile in the plant, some authors recommend foliar spraying to improve seed productivity and quality. Dose and timing of applications are important factors inner decisions related to crop production and management. Therefore, the goal of this work was to evaluate effects of times and doses of soil boron application on soybean quality, and its influence on the physiological characteristics after storage. Two experiments were conducted at the State University of Goiás and Federal University of Pelotas. The first in the field, conducted in a randomized block in a 5 x 6 factorial scheme, with five stages (V0, V3, V6, V9 and R1) of boron application and six different doses (0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 kg ha-1) of it, four replications, evaluating leaf boron content, chlorophyll index and seed yield in kg ha-1. The second phase was contrived in the laboratory aimed to evaluate the physiological quality and nutrient titration of seeds after 6 months of storage, with a completely randomized design in a 5 x 6 factorial arrangement with four replications as in the field with 5 stages and 6 doses. The variables analyzed were: germination, root length, shoot length, growth rate index, root development ratio, shoot development ratio and concentration of phosphorus, nitrogen, potassium and boron. The reproductive stage showed the best averages for seed quality variables and concentration nutrients, whereas for doses, the intermediate levels showed positive results for most of the tests used in the study. However, there isn’t justification for fertilization with boron to maintain the stored seeds quality.
